Methanol is a clear, colourless, flammable liquid that is commonly used as a solvent, antifreeze fuel and raw material for the manufacture of chemicals and products such as formaldehyde and biodiesel. Methanol is also used as an alternative fuel in some countries, due to its relatively low cost and low toxicity compared to gasoline. Methanol is produced from natural gas, coal or biomass and it is readily biodegradable, making it a more environmentally friendly alterative to some traditional fuels.
